A north-east-facing bay of sand and chalk reef catching easterly and north-easterly swells other beaches miss, with a central beach break over shifting sandbars and reef lefts and rights on the flanks. A surf school operates here, and kitesurfers use it, staying offshore of the surf zone; reefs are shallow and hazardous at low tide, and rips are a hazard. RNLI lifeguards patrol daily in season. Dogs banned 1 May-30 September, except early and late.
