An exposed, steeply shelving shingle beach with sand patches at mid-to-low tide, facing SSW on the eastern Solent into south-westerly swell. An offshore sandbar produces moderate beach-break waves with shore dump on a good swell, used for windsurfing, kitesurfing, SUP and swimming. Submerged wooden groynes are a hazard. At high tide the sea reaches the sea wall, leaving few entry points; ebbing tides funnel into the shipping channel. No lifeguard service.
