A sheltered, south-facing sandy beach inside an estuary, calm for swimming and paddling in most conditions but almost fully covered at high tide. Rockpools appear at low tide. On large winter south-westerly swells it can produce a rideable rivermouth break with left and right peaks at mid tide, offshore in a south-westerly wind. No lifeguard patrol; the harbour authority sets a 6-8 knot speed limit. Dogs welcome year-round.
