A river-mouth beach break with a left-hand wave forming thick walls and hollow sections on NW swell and SW offshore wind, best in autumn and winter. It lies in a protected wetland reserve: kitesurfing is banned in the estuary channel, permitted only at this beach and its bay; jet skis and water-skiing are banned inland of the harbour. Rip currents and crowding are hazards. Lifeguards cover 20 June-20 September, 11:30-19:30; dogs banned in bathing season.
