A wide, sandy urban beach facing southeast, calm for swimming in summer, with watersports coming into their own in autumn/winter as east winds fill in. The sandy bottom forms a beach break, left- and right-handers, inconsistent, best on southeast swell with offshore wind. Concrete breakwaters at the north end create a sheltered flat-water zone favoured by kiters but present a hazard. Kiting and surfing are banned in the bathing zone late May-mid September.
