A wide, west-facing Atlantic sandy beach within a protected natural park, partly sheltered by an offshore fortress island creating a wind shadow. The main beach is a sand-bottom break with shifting sandbars, suited to intermediate surfers, with beginners manageable on smaller days; reef breaks north and south hold larger swells but need local knowledge or boat access. Also used for windsurfing, kayaking and diving. Lifeguards cover 15 June-15 September.
