East Head Beach scores 94/100 for kitesurf today at its best ability level (expert). The beach faces W. A remote sand spit at a harbour mouth, backed by shifting dunes and salt marsh, designated SSSI and Ramsar wetland, managed for wildlife, not bathing. The seaward side is a small, fetch-limited beach break; the harbour side has mudflats and strong currents, with sandbanks dropping suddenly to deep water. Kitesurfing and wind watersports are banned in the harbour. At high tide the sandy hinge to the mainland floods, cutting off access. No lifeguard cover.
