The largest, most accessible beach in its town, about 1km of golden sand at an estuary mouth, busy in high summer but quiet otherwise. It is a sheltered bay with a river-mouth left-hand wave needing a solid northwest swell, often flat in summer, reportedly best around mid tide; rocks, crowds and pollution near the mouth are noted hazards. Surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing are confined to designated zones. Lifeguards operate 15 June-15 September.
