Firm sand suits beginner surfing; mid-tide is the sweet spot, low tide exposes wide sand flats. Kitesurfing is confined to a zone north of the Sandymere lifeguard hut and banned within roughly 2 hours either side of high tide. RNLI lifeguards patrol mid-May to late September; estuary currents run at the northern end.
