South Milton Sands scores 92/100 for windsurf today at its best ability level (advanced). The beach faces W. A long, west-facing beach of coarse sand and fine shingle, backed by a wetland SSSI and partly sheltered by the offshore Thurlestone Rock arch. Onshore southwest winds and sheltered water inside the arch support windsurfing, kitesurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding, with seasonal hire on site. Submerged rocks and shifting sandbars lie across the bay; a separate reef gives a fickle right-hand break, best in winter. RNLI lifeguards patrol 6 July-8 September.
